CAFOD & Comic Relief ……..Red Nose Day/Mad Hat Day

It was a wonderful day on Friday and all the children looked splendid in their red outfits and mad hats raising money for both CAFOD and Comic Relief. The day started with a wonderful assembly all about CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development) when we found out about how families n Northern Zambia are being supported to turn their lives around through a project called ‘ Big Fish, Little Fish’.

Well done children for supporting these causes so enthusiastically.

Receiving our certificates in assembly.

Mr Elliot still had time to award the golden broom whilst wearing his red nose and mad hat!

Science Week

Let’s have a look at what we have been up to for Science Week!

Thank you to our wonderful Scientists who have given their time to allow us to find out what scientists do in their jobs.

Rugger Eds

The children enjoyed the Rugger Ed’s Session on Monday. We learnt new games and skills in the sports hall with Joe. Everyone had the opportunity to try out goal kicks and we had a great game of ‘Tag Rugby’.

St.Wilfrid’s Gym

The children have been creating new and exciting obstacle courses which are great fun but at the same time helping us to be healthy, grow strong and develop new skills.

We have been designing obstacle courses to include the key words: balance, over, under, through, in, around, between, jump, kick, throw .

It’s easy to stay fit when you are having so much fun!

The Vets

It has been a busy week at ‘The Vets Practice’ with many poorly animals being treated and helped to get better. It’s a good job there is an efficient secretary and skilled vets who can diagnose a problem and operate if needed!

The Vets have been asking lots of questions to find out what the problem could be. We have used our question words to help us think about the questions we can ask.

The Waterworks!

It has been busy at the ‘Waterworks’ and the children have been using their problem solving skills to think about how they can transport water from one container to another. There has been great planning, sharing ideas and co-operation.

Well done.

St. Wilfrid’s Got Talent!

There has been singing, dancing, music and entertainment on the stage at ‘St.Wilfrid’s Got Talent’. You can join in, dress up, play music, sing a song, recite a story or poem.
The audience have enjoyed all performances and have scored all the contestants and even written reviews of performances.

St.Wilfrid’s certainly has got talent!!!!

The Gruffalo

We are reading our favourite books which the children brought in for World Book Day. Lots of the children chose the story of ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson.

It has been an exciting week in the story of ‘The Gruffalo’. Houses have been designed and built for the animals in the story.

Maps designed to help the Mouse escape from the Gruffalo through the woods.

We even measured the snake living in the log pile house and found out he was more than 200 cubes long. Well done, this took a long time and fantastic concentration.

Other children helped to count using the beadstrings to keep track of how many the girls were up to.

The children worked out it was much easier and quicker to count in 10’s than in 1’s.

The cafe have been serving special Gruffalo food such as ‘scrambled snake’, ‘Owl ice cream’ and ‘roasted fox’.

A camp has been set up out side and all the animals have been spotted throughout the week.
