We took a walk to our wooded area this afternoon. We had talked about the different woodland animals we might find living in the woods and the children went on an animal hunt. We had a lovely time exploring the woods and we even used some early orienteering skills to match numbers to pictures of animals.
We do not need the wellingtons back in school until Wednesday. It would be great if the children can wear them for the school trip and then have a change of footwear for when we return to school. I apologise for how muddy the Wellingtons got! Just to remind you it is non-uniform for the trip. Thank you.
The children in Year 1 have started to look at time. During our maths meetings we have been telling the time to the o’clock and half past the hour.
Today we learnt that there are 60 seconds in a minute, we then had to see how many times we could do different things in twenty seconds, for example write our name, throw and catch a ball, do as many star jumps as we can. The children worked really hard and really enjoyed working with their partner counting the different tasks.
Our Reception children have also been working hard in maths this week, they have been focussing on addition and subtraction. Today the children had to add two numbers together using a number line whilst telling a number story. They used the star words ‘first, then, now.’
We will be visiting our school woods tomorrow afternoon (if it’s not raining or snowing), please can your child bring in some wellingtons or appropriate shoes for the woods. Many thanks.
Just a check that everyone received a letter about our class trip next week. If you didn’t please see me as soon as possible. If any parents could volunteer their time to come with us we would be very grateful, please let us know if you can help. Also just to remind you that we are asking children to have an orange or purple dinner that day or bring in a packed lunch and to also wear their own clothes.
Today the children were very lucky as they got to watch some students from All Saints School and their teachers perform their musical instruments and also sing. We would like to thank Mr.Elliot and his team for coming into school and giving us the opportunity to listen to the brilliant music performed and also thank you for helping us learn about the different instruments. We all want to play an an instrument now!
Our half-termly newsletter, with details of what we will be doing over the next few weeks, will go out in the next few days.
Please can the Year 1 children complete the online video based on time on ‘Maths with Parents.’ We will be starting our ‘Time’ unit next week.
Our spellings for this week are – want, watch, all, some, any. Again practising writing these would be great too. Soon we will be sending home some handwriting sheets for the children to practise on.
I apologise the story sacks for Reception children didn’t come home tonight, they will be home tomorrow – sorry!
We hope you have all had a lovely Christmas and well done to all the children for settling back into school so well.
Our next topic will be ‘What lies in the deep, dark woods?’ As part of our exciting topic, we will be visiting our school woods on various occasions. We would be very grateful if you could send in a pair of wellingtons and old tracksuit bottoms in a named plastic carrier bag. It would be really useful if these could remain in school from Monday to Friday until the February half term holidays.
Thank you for your co-operation.
