The children have been really enjoying our different areas of the classroom. One area which they have particularly enjoyed this week is our creative area where they can use the different materials to make things. We are currently running low on cardboard boxes and asking if we could have donations. This could be anything from tea boxes to cereal boxes. Please note that we have several allergies in the class so we cannot use boxes that have contained any kind of nut product or sesame seed. Thanks very much.
Just a reminder that it is the Reception welcome assembly this Friday at 9 am. This is a special time for our new Reception children and their families to be welcomed into the school family. It would be lovely to see as many of you as possible. The assembly will last about half an hour.
We’ve had another lovely week so far. Yesterday, after reading the book ‘Leaf Man’ we took at trip down to our school woods. We were looking for signs of autumn and collecting leaves to make our own leaf people. Have a look at some of our wonderful creations. We’ve also been enjoying our new set up in the tuff tray which was an autumn woodland.
During our RE lessons, we have been talking about our families. We have role played different family situations and have discussed what makes a house a home. We made our own family puppets!
We have then gone on to talk about how we are all precious to God and our families. We made a special heart remembering that God is always with us in our hearts. Here are a few photos of our special RE lessons.
During our science, we have started to learn about the four different seasons with a focus on autumn. Last week the children had a go at picking autumn colours and painting a leaf which we then added to our class display. This week, the children have had access to lots of autumn activities in choosing time and some of the year 1s started to think of autumn recipes for our mud kitchen involving acorns, conkers etc. Sometime over the next couple of weeks we will be taking advantage of our school woods and going on an autumn hunt!
The children have had access to lots of fun maths activities so far this week. For the Reception children it’s just been about exploring our different maths equipment and seeing what numbers they recognise. For the Year 1s it’s been about exploring numbers to 20, thinking about different ways to represent the numbers and some simple addition.
We’ve used numicon, dienes, bingo dabbers to practice number formation, cubes to measure superheroes, conkers/acorns/leaves to make repeated patterns, lego to build towers and painted apples on trees.
A big well done to all the children who are coming into school brilliantly and starting to get used to some of our school routines.
We will be posting some more about what we’ve been up to.
It would be great if your child could bring in a photo of a family member or members to share with the class. Please can you put your child’s name on the back. Thank you.
Here is a timetable of the Year 1 reading days. If your child could bring their books and yellow reading records on that day that would be brilliant. If you could comment in their yellow records to let us know how they are getting on at home that would be great.
Receptions will start bringing home books with sounds in once they start their phonic sessions.
We would just like to thank all our children for coming in to school so well over the last couple of days!
Just a few reminders. Please could you provide a water bottle each day. The children are only allowed water, no juice please. PE bags can be brought in and left on pegs. These will be sent home at half term for washing. We will be having PE on Wednesday afternoons.
We would just like to introduce the other adults in our classroom. Our Teaching Assistants are called Mrs O’Sullivan and Mrs Heaton and we are lucky to be joined for some of this year by a student teacher called Ms Cullen. We are also lucky to have Mrs Connolly on a Wednesday afternoon.
Any questions about anything please do not hesitate to ask. We will be posting weekly updates on our class blog so please keep an eye out for new posts.
