Autumn walk Tuesday

Weather permitting, we are hoping to go on an autumn walk to our school woods on Tuesday. Please could you send your child with wellies and a waterproof coat. I will try to remind the children in class tomorrow as well.

Many thanks.

Reception Reading

Just in case you couldn’t make the Read, Write Inc evening on Wednesday, Reception children will be bringing books home with sounds and words stuck in.  Please can you go through the sounds and words with your child. We have introduced ‘Fred talk’ and ‘read the word’  so if you point to the sounds, your child can have a go  at pronouncing them using pure sounds.  Then underline the word with your finger and your child will  attempt  to blend the sounds to read the word.

Your child will also bring home a story sack on their reading day. This is a lovely activity to do at home where there are books/games/jigsaws based around a theme. Please can you return the story sack on your child’s reading day making sure all of the contents are inside. Here are there reading days-

Monday – Mary, Lyla, Max, Douglas, Clara, Eva

Thursday – Narayan, Romey, Sam

Friday, Noor, Kasia, Leila, Alexandra, Eibhlin,  Toby,

Our RE lesson…

The children enjoyed talking about their homes and families in our RE lesson this week. They enjoyed role playing how different family members show love and care. They also enjoyed designing and making a home for a family.   Here are a few pictures of our lesson…

It would be great if you can send in a photograph of your child with a family member/s for our next RE lesson which will be next Friday.  Many thanks.

Maths with Parents

It’s great to see that so many parents have registered with maths with parents. If you need any help getting set up, please do ask one of us.

When you log in, you will see that there is now an introductory video about how maths with parents works plus a video and a set of activities for you to try with your child. We hope you enjoy them! Please leave some comments to let us know how you got on.

Many thanks

Reception Welcoming Assembly

There will be an assembly welcoming our new reception children into school on Friday 4th October at 9am. We invite you to attend and you will be able to sit with your child throughout the assembly. We ask you to drop your child off as usual at 8.50am and wait for us to invite you into the classroom after registration. Many thanks.

Reading Information Evening

As we begin our daily phonics sessions,  there is a reading information meeting on Wednesday 25th September at 7pm in the Reception/Year 1 classroom. We will be sending home reading books and story sacks the following week and it would be very beneficial for the children if we are modelling the same strategies both at school and home. This meeting is aimed at Reception parents new to the Read, Write Inc Programme. Many thanks.

Just to let you know our Year 1 children will be attending the school Mass on Friday. The Reception children will  continue to become familiar with the classroom and the outdoor area. They will have a ‘Welcoming Assembly’ on Friday 4th October at 9am. Thank you.

Welcome Back!

Welcome to our Reception /Year 1 blog. We’d like to start by saying a big well done to all the children who have come in so well this week and last. They are all settling in so well and the Receptions enjoyed their first school lunch today. Thank you so much for your support in encouraging the children to come in independently.

Just a reminder of a couple of things. PE will be on a Wednesday. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit with them on this day.

We will go through dinners with the children each morning and help them choose but it would also be really helpful if the night before you could go through the dinners with your child and help them decide.

Please could your child bring a water bottle to school each day. They will be encouraged to have a drink throughout the day. It would also be great if you could label cardigans, jumpers, coats etc so that we can ensure they get back to your child.

Below is a list of Year 1 reading days. Some  of Tuesday’s readers have come home today but from next week it will be Tuesday. Receptions will start bringing home a reading book as soon as they start their phonic lessons in a couple of weeks. There is an information evening coming up where you will receive more information on how we teach reading.
