Wellingtons on Tuesday

Wellies

On Tuesday, we will be going on a winter walk to our school woods. Please can you make sure your child has their wellingtons in for that day.

As we are approaching winter we would still love the children to access the outdoor area. If possible we would appreciate it if you could bring in your child’s wellies in a bag to hang on their peg. Please ensure these are labelled so they can find their way back home.

Many Thanks

Homework

We would just like to say thank you to all the wonderful comments and pictures on ‘Maths with Parents.’ It is so lovely to hear that the children are enjoying the videos and activities!

Tomorrow the Year 1 children will come home with a spelling sheet  and some sentences to have a go at. We have new ‘Maths with Parents’ have been set.

Many thanks.

Christmas Market – tomorrow

As you know, Y6 are running a Christmas market at school tomorrow as a fundraiser for St Luke’s Bizkids. If your child would like to bring some small change to spend, there will be an opportunity for them to visit the market in the afternoon. Please send any money in a named purse or envelope. Thank you!

Year 1 Reading Information Evening

We would like to invite Year 1 parents and carers to a Year 1 Read Write Inc information session on Monday 2 December at 7pm in the R/Y1 classroom. We will be sharing information about how we teach phonics in school and how you can further support your child at home.

We really appreciate all the help and support that you give us at home. Thank you!

Year 1 Art

The Year 1s have enjoyed learning about pointillism in art, the technique of using small dots to create an image. They looked at some aboriginal art using this technique and then had a go at doing it themselves. This week, the children were looking at how they could make improvements to their picture and all did a final picture. Here is some painting in action and we will try to upload the final pictures too!

Year 1 Science

The Year 1s have enjoyed all doing their science together over the last couple of weeks. Last week, the children were investigating what materials were waterproof and were introduced to the idea of a ‘fair test’. This week, the children used their knowledge of both ‘floating and sinking’ and ‘waterproof materials’ to design and make a boat. Next week, we will test our boats to see if they are successful.

Cuddles’ Birthday

This half term the Reception children have been learning all about different celebrations. This week we have been talking about birthdays and finding out about how birthdays are celebrated around the world. Did you know that in Sweden they often fly their national flag to celebrate a birthday?

We found out on Monday that it’s going to be our class bear ‘cuddles’ birthday on Thursday so we have been busy planning a birthday celebration for him. The children have loved making birthday cards, playdoh cakes, writing lists of party food, making decorations in our workshop area and using loose parts to decorate cakes.

December…

Monday 2nd December – Fundraising Event
To help raise money for St Lukes BizKids ,the children have decided upon a fun obstacle race with their favorite cuddly toy. So we welcome the children to bring in their favorite teddy along with a voluntary small donation.

Wednesday 11th December – Christmas Jumper Day

Friday 13th December – Christmas Carols
We are still looking for volunteers to help support our visit to the local nursing home. Any extra help will be very much appreciated!

17th and 18th December- Nativity
For the KS1 Nativity all our  children will be learning songs to perform. We ask that children wear an over-sized white T-shirt with home -made stars on. Please do not panic, these can be tinfoil or paper stars stapled on or colored in. Please do not go to too much trouble, they will all look fantastic! Also please can you put them into a named carrier bag and bring them into school by Tuesday 10th December. If you are having any difficulty please let us know and we can help!

Thank you so much to all the parents and grandparents who came this afternoon to look at our work on Judaism and who helped the children with different activities. The children loved it!
