We’d love to see pictures again at the end of the week of things the children have been up to this week.

Any questions please email.

Thanks all

Week 2!

Hello everyone, we hope you have had a lovely, sfae weekend! Year 1 parents will be sent a timetable through parentpay today, again please do what you can, these are just suggestions, we completely understand how hard it can be juggling everything!

Here is a lovely link to online prayers and Sunday Liturgies that we use at school and it’s now become available for parents. You might want to share these at  home with your families during this uncertain time.

15 Prayers During School Closure

Have a lovely day! If you have time and your child wants to (!), do continue with Numbots and there is an activity in your ‘To Do’ on Purplemash but please no rush!  Miss Locke will update you with her lovely video on writing captions later. Take care.

Thank you!

Hi everyone, we would just like to say thank you for supporting us this week. We hope you’ve had a lovely week and enjoyed this wonderful sunshine.  Thank you for the emails too, hopefully you have received our replies! We love all the outdoor play and learning you are doing! Here are some of the pictures you have kindly shared with us! Its so lovely to see all of your children so happy.

We also loved the idea of a daily diary, a lovely idea!

Here is your daily update from Miss Locke, it is great you are using the video ideas at home, thank you!

Year 1 parents will receive a timetable via email with just a little advise on some specific activities you can do in your day but again do what you can, outdoor play in the garden is brilliant!

Have a lovely weekend! We will keep adding to the blog when we receive emails. Many thanks.

Thurs 26th

Hi everyone,

New video uploaded.

Hope you’ve been able to get some fresh air in this lovely weather.

Don’t forget we’re going to share some pictures tomorrow so please send us some things you’ve been up to.

Daily update – Wednesday 25th March

Hi everyone, we  hope you are all keeping safe and well, thank goodness the sun is shining!  We also hope you’re enjoying the ideas in the videos! They are so lovely, practical and easy to set up. Here is today’s video – enjoy!

Today in my house we sang the ‘The Gruffalo Song.’   Your children will be familiar with this song as we have sung it in class many times, they might even show you some actions! We then cut  out shapes and stuck them to make a gruffalo’s face, see below. Hopefully you can see the resemblance with the Gruffalo!

Here are two more  links to some songs your child might love to sing at home and join in with.  Again they will be familiar with these songs as we cover in our daily maths meetings.
Year 1s  – we have  also set a maths with parents activity today so you might want have a go at that.
Yesterday I received a lovely email from the lady who was coordinating our school trip to Ecclesall Woods, she sent me this link –
https://www.wildsheffield.com/getinvolved/nature-adventures/activity-sheets-for-children/.   There are some lovely ideas for your children to do at home – we will definitely be making the binoculars and going in a mini beast hunt (in our garden!)
We also thought it would be nice for the children to write a very simple prayer  for hope  (with an adult)  asking God to keep us all safe during this time. This can be linked to the rainbows you are painting and displaying in your windows.   If your child does write a prayer, it would be lovely to receive them and share on the blog along with some of your activities at home!
Again, the Read, Write Inc videos are amazing and they are accessible on youtube for 24 hours.
We have found that the children love being teachers too so maybe they can pretend to teach you the sounds and words from their books and the numbers they cut out from Miss Locke’s video.

Once again thank  you for being so supportive during this time. Please email us with any questions you have and photos of the lovely things your children have been doing at home and we will share these at the end of the week. In your email please let us know if you would like the photos to go on the blog, no problem if not, it would just be lovely to see your children happy!  We would also love to see photos of your children listening to stories! Your child should have brought home a reading challenge on World Book Day, there are some lovely challenges on that. We completely understand lots of you are working so please do what you can, even if it’s just reading to your child daily, this is more important than anything. We don’t want anyone feeling anxious with doing activities at home as we certainly know how challenging it can be! Thank you.

Tue 24th

Hi everyone,

Hope your first day at home went well yesterday.

We’ve enjoyed joining in with the body coach at 9 this morning and then RWI videos. See previous posts for the link for these.

We’ve done a new video with a few activities you might like to do. You can watch it here.

I’ve also put a quick video of the game in action on the Youtube channel. Hope you find it helpful.

Here is also a link to the newsround articles on rainbows.

Audible, have released some free children books to listen to that look nice. Follow the link here to listen.

Have good day everyone and stay safe

Monday Update

Hello everyone,

Hope you are keeping safe and well and getting used to new routines at home. Last week, we sent home a timetable with some ideas on how to structure your day along with some additional resources you may find useful.

We are going to try and add bits to the blog as much as we can over the coming weeks. If there is anyone you know who doesn’t use the blog please can you let them know and spread the word.

Below, is a link to a YouTube video I have made where I share some simple activities you could play at home along with a timetable you may find useful.

We also have a new email address just for R/Y1. We would love to hear all about the learning you have been doing at home and see some pictures of this in action. At the end of the week we will do a special blog post where we will share some of the pictures (only with your permission) you have sent us. That way the children can see what there friends have been doing too! The email address is also an opportunity for you to ask us any questions or advice if you are struggling with anything.

Best wishes,

Miss Locke and Mrs Dalton

Reading Books and Phonics Information

Your child should have come home with some additional reading books today. We will try our best to get resources out to those children who have not been able to attend school. The idea with the reading books is that you will focus on one per week, increasing your child’s fluency with each read. We usually read the books at least three times in school. We have also provided some books of the next colour up. Please start with the books on your child’s current colour (the one they have been doing over the last few weeks). Save the next colour book for when you have read all the others. In case you are unsure which colour comes next, here is the list of colours in order.

Ditty Sheet

Please be aware that this list covers both Reception and Year 1 and that we are only two thirds through the academic year so please don’t worry that your child hasn’t gone through all the colours.

We have also sent home some sounds. For Year 1 children, they have both set 2 and set 3 sounds. For Reception children, they have set 2 sounds and if confident, your child may want to start learning set 3 sounds. If your child has been reading red books, they will not have started to learn set 2 sounds but will need to start learning over the coming weeks. We will support you with this and there will be more information to follow.

In addition to this, RWI (the phonics programme we follow) have released the following information

RWI Phonics lessons at home from Monday 23rd March

We’re scheduling free Read Write Inc. Phonics lessons on Facebook and YouTube for children to watch at home; three short Speed Sound lessons with one of our trainers every day for the next two weeks. Films will only be available at the times below:

Set 1 Speed Sounds at 9.30 am and again at 12.30 pm

Set 2 Speed Sounds at 10.00 am and again at 1.00 pm

Set 3 Speed Sounds at 10.30 am and again at 1.30 pm

Note: films are streamed live and won’t be available at other times.

We would highly recommend your child take part in these lessons everyday if you can.

You can also sign up as a parent on the oxford owl website and access lots of ebooks. You will be able to choose the appropriate colour book for your child.

Follow this link to access these books

Over the coming weeks, we will provide more information about how to best use the phonics books and how to help your child with learning their sounds.

Finally, a little plea… we have sent out a large number of our phonics books and they are quite expensive to purchase. Please can you take good care of the books and return them all when we are back at school.

We’ve really appreciated all your support this week. We will be working hard over the coming weeks to support your child at home as well as supporting those who will need to come to school.

Some useful packs coming home…

Your child will be coming home with a pack tonight which has the sounds and words in that we have been  learning. If these can be made into flash cards that would be great and if you can try to incorporate these into your daily routine it would be really useful. We have also put some fun learning activities into your packs for your child to have a go at over the next few weeks. With the words, we always say to the children “special friends, fred talk read the word”. So if the word was ‘green’, they would say ‘ee’ then g-r-ee-n then green. When they can confidently sound out the word, we would then ask if they can read it in their head before saying the word (fred in your head) and finally once they are confident reading it in their  head before saying the word, we would then do speedy reading and see how quickly they can read the words. The Year 1 children have brought home an exercise book too, they can use it to record any of their work in.
There will be a  range of free support so that children can continue their Read Write Inc. learning journey away from the classroom during these uncertain times.  These free resources will all be added to the Read Write Inc. page on Oxford Owl website for home over the coming weeks, and we’ll continue to update you as they become available.
We will be updating the blog on a regular basis  (parents will receive a letter today about this). Your child will also be coming home with a Purple Mash ID which is great online platform for some home school learning. This will be explained in our  blogs. A ‘Numbot’ username and password has also been sent home and an email has been sent explaining this new service.
