Mystery Crash Landing

After lunch the children came into our class to SUCH a mess! They were wondering what had happened and we discovered a letter. The astronaut Helen Sharman had crash landed in our classroom and wanted us to learn all about her time in space and write her a letter with some questions. The children were so excited and it was such a fun afternoon.

Our Week

We’ve had another lovely week in school.

We’ve enjoyed making pirate maps and searching for hidden treasure in our outdoor area.

We’ve enjoyed using the mobile library again on Tuesday. The children love discussing and sharing their favorite books. (We are only able to change the children’s books if they bring their previous book back as we do not have enough books otherwise.)

In science the children learnt about wild flowers and we investigated which wild flowers we have most of in school.

Both Reception and Year 1 have been working hard in maths this week. Reception have done some fantastic subtracting using pirate gold and Year 1 have worked hard finding the difference between two numbers.

We hope you have a restful bank holiday weekend.

Year 1 Homework

We are starting to set spelling quizzes for ‘red’ (tricky) words on Purple Mash. There will be a new quiz each week. You can find the first quiz under ‘Spelling quiz Summer 1’ as a ‘2do’ when you log into your child’s account. In addition to doing the quizzes, there are lots of other ways to practise the spellings at home, using the steps ‘look at the word, say the word, cover it up, write it’. You could ask your child to write the word in sand, paints, felt tips, magnetic letters, scrabble tiles, in rainbow writing, etc.

We will be teaching the same spellings each week in school and will also be listing them on the blog each week. The spellings for the week beginning Monday 26 April are:

do, of, said, says, was

We will also send some Maths Mats home for your child to complete, they reinforce what we do in class.

Thank you for all your help. If you have any questions, please just ask.

Welcome Back: Our First Week

It was lovely to welcome the children back this week and we hope you have all had a lovely Easter holiday. This week the children have been blowing us away with their work in Maths focusing on addition and subtraction and in phonics! We can tell you have been practicing at home!

This week the children had so much fun planting their own bean plant seeds just like Jasper’s Beanstalk. We were amazed with the children’s knowledge of what plants need to grow. We will be looking at our plants every week; caring for them and observing the changes just like Scientists!

On Tuesday afternoon we enjoyed a session with the library trolley where children explored a variety of books and were able to take one home to enjoy with family and friends.

In History the children learnt about the explorer Robert Scoot and his expedition to the South Pole! Hopefully they can tell you all about it. The reception children have been learning about pirates and enjoyed role playing as pirates on the pirate ship with Mrs. Dalton.

Here are a few photos of our week. We hope you enjoy them!!!

Important – Friday 23rd April

We are so sorry as we have just realised there are individual school photographs tomorrow and I am sure you would like your child to have their photo in their school uniform. Please can your child come to school in full school uniform instead if their PE kits but if your child can wear trainers that would be great. We will still have Sheffield United coaching in the afternoon. Apologies again for the change.

Many thanks.

Welcome Back!

We hope you are having a lovely Easter break!

We have been informed of some exciting changes to our PE lessons for next term! Coaches from Sheffield United will be teaching PE to our class on Friday afternoons.

This means our PE day will move from Wednesday to Friday. The children will therefore need to come to school in their PE kits on Fridays instead of Wednesdays from this week onwards.

Also we have a new exciting mobile library! The children will be given the opportunity to choose their own library book (fiction or non-fiction) this Tuesday. They will then be able to exchange it for a new book every Tuesday. Reading days will remain the same.

Also we would love any junk materials, for example ceral boxes, kitchen roll tubes, egg boxes and especially plastic bottles as this topic’s theme for Reception is ‘It’s a Pirate’s Life.’

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you all.

Holy Week

This week the staff and the children have had a lovely last week.

We have done some fun Easter Maths this week with Shape hunts and Easter bonds to 5!

In RE we have been learning all about the Easter Story and Holy Week, which we finished off with our Stations of the Cross walk and the children blew me away with their knowledge.

The children have done us proud this week and we felt it only right to treat them to an Easter sweets hunt, an Easter bonnet parade, a movie afternoon and some amazing dance battles.

Here are some lovely photos of our week. Enjoy the Easter holiday’s everyone, See you after the break!
